A Kobold, In Your Area

It's more likely than you think.

The internet is not a destination in itself- it's a directory of directions. Now that's tautological! In my extensive digital travels I have tracked both far and wide, high and low, through slop and gold, to find you. Let me tell you folks, Bear Blog is my El Dorado.

It doesn't take long on the discovery page to identify the exact type of people that use Bear Blog. It's those persnickety, old-fashioned internet folks who remember when you could email a webmaster. And what did you know, Herman emailed me! The wave of nostalgia emanating over me hit like the food critic from Ratatouille taking that first bite.

Full transparency, I'm in my late 20's. I was nearing double digits when modernity came rushing through the front door and parked itself in our hallway. It's a British semi-detached, everybody- we had no spare bedroom to dedicate to the plastic monolith. The pitter-patter of footsteps and the methodical trudge of the working father permeated any minute I had at that desk.

I find it funny how many of those skeletons remain. How are your Neopets? Starving? Mine too!

Anyway, this is my blog post, I can go on whatever tangents I like. And I, am a Kobold! I love being a Kobold because what a Kobold is depends so vitally on context. Whether you think I have a challenge rating of 1/8, me want bite, or inexplicably a dog in a JRPG: sure! Myth and fantasy is not owned by one individual and I encourage you to see yourself not just as you but as a mythmaker. You, dear reader, can be exactly what you want and tell the stories you want to tell!

Bloggers, especially those on this platform, are excellent storytellers. You are weaving such excellent tales of your own existence. Clotho would be proud! I find myself actually wanting to talk to you all. I am sick of the glut of commentary algorithms spew. I've been reading a lot of Kierkegaard recently and it shocks me how much his words still apply. Thank you for your passions, I'm very glad you share them.

Briefly, about me. I'm an artist! My main medium is ephemera. I make books and zines and bind them at home. My disability, Functional Neurological Disorder, means controlling my motor function can take a lot of effort, so forgive me if on some days I write near-incomprehensibly. We live inside of a blink and I'd rather make the most of every day, even the bad ones.

I think this blog is for me, mostly. It's a shared open letter offering space to reflect. With that in mind, if you subscribe with RSS, you might see things utterly irrelevant to your life and interests! That being said, I invite you to read anyway. The world is a more interesting place when you choose to try something that isn't usually for you. Let a Kobold into your hearts, and into your pantry. I want to eat your dry goods.

Call it a dinner date,

Haley
